Neighbors

In December of 2021, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, Peck School of the Arts. My BFA series, Neighbors, consisted of four large landscape paintings. This is my artist statement that was presented alongside the four works:

I interpret the essence of a moment in the natural world through expressive brushstrokes, texture, and color. Layers of twisting lines create a calming ambience to get lost within. My paintings focus on a personal found appreciation for nature, drawing from memories of growing up with towering backyard cottonwoods, climbing trees, and exploring trails.

I work to give a sensory experience that is both familiar and abstract. Familiar because of its ties to the natural world, and abstract because of its lack of concrete existence. Textures inspired by reality and color palettes influenced by seasonal change and nostalgia give an awareness for both the natural world and the world of painting.

By painting trees, I am able to show my gratitude and meditate on a moment. These paintings are all about feeling present and taking in one’s surroundings. I hope the viewer feels the love that is in these paintings.

The original paintings are not currently available for purchase. Consider supporting me by purchasing a limited edition Neighbors print.
